Find Ancestors

Hi. I'm trying to find family members related to Joseph Collins, born 1877 and his wife Henrietta Louisa Collins (nee. Hancock) born 1890. Their children were Henrietta (known as Lou), Martha, Frederick James born 1914, Emma Collins, Edward Collins, Kathleen Collins, Ray Collins, Joseph Collins, James (he was a twin, the other one died and name unknown), Lucy Collins (died at 9 months old) and Jane Collins (known as Ginny). Does anyone know if Joseph's parents were Michael and Ellen from County Cork, Ireland? If anyone has any further information on this family, please get in touch. Many Thanks xx

I have recently started looking for this family again. I have discovered that Joseph Collins was born in 1889 so I was way out on the birth year! Also, discovered that Joseph's father was Charles Collins NOT Michael. I am completely stuck trying to find Charles, unfortunately he was deceased on the marriage records. Don't know a birth year or a location of birth. I know the family were all from around the Shoreditch, Hackney areas of London. Oh well, might take me another few years to get more information but if anyone can help, I'd be very grateful.

I see that Joseph and Henrietta maried 1908 in Shorditch.

As you say father Charles was recorded as deceased on the marriage cert, I wonder if one of these is his death

Are you basing Joseph's dob on the age he gave on his marriage cert?
What new information has changed the dob from 1877 to 1889 ?
Any idea of his mother's name ?

Thank you so much for taking a look for me. Michael, I found a Joseph born 1877 on a census record and for a long time thought that was the right one. I have worked out his year of birth from the marriage records that I had found. Haven't got a clue of the Mother's name - sorry. I'm not sure if the mother's name is still Ellen, just know father's name isn't Michael. From the 1911 census, I noted that there was a Jane living with the family and is Joseph's sister. I cannot find a father Charles with Jane and Joseph as children. Thanks again for your help. If I get any more information, I'll be sure to let you know.

I am wondering if you are able to help me with my search. As you may see from information given previously, Joseph Collins was born about 1889 (this was worked out from his marriage certificate to Henrietta Hancock in 1908). It detailed Charles Collins as his Father but sadly deceased, his occupation was written as a Potman. Well, today, while searching for Jane Collins (Joseph's sister) born about 1891 (again worked out from the marriage details) I found a marriage to George Stanley Pegram in 1912. It has Charles Collins as the Father, his occupation is a Potman but he isn't detailed as Deceased! Could this have been a mistake? On Jane's marriage certificate, a Joseph Collins is one of the witnesses, the other is a Elizabeth Bates (not sure if she is a family member). Both marriages were in St. Anne's Church, Hoxton, Shoreditch, London. I am unable to find any of them on census records. I do not know Joseph and Jane's mother's name. I would really like to get a birth certificate for Joseph or Jane but can't seem to find their birth records either.
Can anyone help me please?

Dear Mike and Dea,
Thank you so much for helping me. This family is very difficult to find. I have seen the info you have have given and have kept it in mind even though it isn't an exact match for the family. I am getting the feeling that maybe the family moved into the London area from somewhere else. Some of my family members have said in the past that the Collins family came from Ireland but I have tried looking and haven't come up with anything there. Well, I shall keep looking and will hopefully be able to report some more success in the future.
