Information on William & Elizabeth Cook who emigrated to Australia c1863, they would have then been in their 60's. The family originated from Berkshire. Cook is my maternal ancestor name. Thanks for any help

Hi Elsie,
What information do you have on William and Elizabeth Cook eg. do you know Elizabeth's maiden name. Do you know what state in Australia they came to.
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
Regards,
Patricia.

Hi Patricia
I believe Elizabeth's maiden name was Parker. I have only just come across this and am still delving into it. It looks like they settled in South Australia. I am not 100% sure of the State, hence my mesage on the board but does does appear that William died in Adelaide.
The Cook's, who hailed from Berkshire, England, were my maternal ancestors. How are you related please?

Do you know whether William & Elizabeth had any children? If so what were their names and ages? Do you know what William's occupation was?

Elsie Report 28 Dec 2009 08:48

In 1841 William was a Carman. So far I have six children Sarah c1826,John c1829, William c1831, Thomas c1836, Elizabeth c1836, Charles c1838.
I found the information regarding their emighration on a site http://www.angelfire.com/folk/parkerfam/
the information there seems to coincide with what I have but obviously I need to be sure. On the same site, at the bottom, is " my email", however it doesn't open. Thank you all for you help and interest

Hi again. I am not sure if the Charles Cook family's (1881 census) are mine. Or if they are I haven't got them in my tree, which is possible. However, my maternal ancestors mainly emanated from Bray, Bisham, Cookham & Winkfield in Berkshire; with the odd one's being registered in Windsor.
The website angelfire.com indicates that Charles c1839 married Isabella Robertson 1861 Upper Wakefield, South Australia. It further states that some of children of William & Elizabeth emigrated to S. Autralia prior to their parents as follows
William & John on the ship Calphurnia 1849
Charles & Thomas ship Pestonjee Bomanjee 1854
Whereas William & Elizabeth arrived by Sir John Lawrence in SA 1863.
Each time I look at this I get more confused.........Help!!!

For info this is the household in 1851

William Cook 52
Elizabeth Cook 52
Thomas Cook 16
Charles Cook 13
Elizabeth Cook 10
James Cook 6
Civil parish: Bray
Town: Maidenhead
County/Island: Berkshire
Registration district: Cookham

and there was, oh you must forgive me, a cock-up in 1841 at Ancestry

William Cock 40
Elizabeth Cock 40
Sarah Cock 15
John Cock 10
William Cock 10
Thomas Cock 6
Charles Cock 4
Elizabeth Cock 6
Civil parish: Bray

If you subscribe to Ancestry you should really correct the surname and that way anyone else researching them will be able to find the record and contact you.

By 1861 they are in Sunninghill

William Cook 58
Elizabeth Cook 53
Henry Cook 27
David W Chandler 14
Mary Palmer 16

Son Henry has appeared rather suddenly, but the names in the various years do reflect the sequence of departure for Australia that you have.

Thank you bruceabt1959. No I do not subscribe to Ancestry just to findmypast.
As you say 1861 Henry has suddenly appeared, however William & Elizabeth appear to have massaged down their ages!
