Find Ancestors

My wife's Audrey's family name is Cook - a tough name to track. However, she sees such facial similarity with the excellent opening bat for the England test team in Alistiair Cook with members of her father's family that she is intrigued to try to trace a connection. So this is the possible connection:

Her uncle's name was Ernest Cook (married to Phyllis) who had sons Geoffrey and David. She believes that Alistair Cook the test cricketer is possibly the grandson of her uncle.

In my wife's Cook family, there is also uncle William (Bill) Cook married to Lylie with son Alan. So the possible connection is that Alistair Cook is a grandson of Alan.

Is there anyone out there who can confirm any connection?

From which part of England does your wife's family originate?

To look for a connection, you need to find marriages for the men you think may be linked.......then look for births in those marriages etc

Have you tried doing any research?

It's hardly likely that anyone on here can come up with an instant answer for you.............

I imagine you've googled Alastair's name, and found out how much info is posted about him?

The details of his parents can easily be found if you google

Thanks Flick for your responses: Extremely helpful. This was the first time that I'd posted on the community message board (that's obvious I suppose!). Yes of course, I'm looking for a connection to Alastair Cook with an a in the middle (not Alistair which is my son's first name). My wife's relations relevant to Alastair Cook originated in East London. The Earnest Cook -> Geoffrey Cook line later became rooted in the NorthWest and later still in the West Country - Devon/Cornwall probably.

Anyway, I'll take your advice and start the search via marriages and births, etc.
I did google the name and got a reasonable profile of Alastair Cook the Cricketer - but nothing about parentage.
