Hello fellow Cook Researchers, I am currently tracing my paternal roots which are primarily Cook/Cooke. Most of the family has lived in Leicestershire and also Nottinghamshire, but I have met a stumbling block with William Cook born in Whitwick, Leics. about 1834. I have a certified copy of his marriage certificate from May 16, 1853 and his wife was Elizabeth Wright. Was this William really named John? The father of William Cook however is John Fletcher, listed as a labourer. A further search has revealed that Jane Cook, William's mother named John Fletcher as the supposed Father on William and his siblings baptism certificates. Has anyone researching Cook's of Leics or Derby run across this family, if so I would like to learn more. John Fletcher of 14th Regiment of Foot William (or John) Cook b. 1834 Whitwick, Leics |
