Samuel Cook Trying to find more information on my g/mothers family. Her name was Lillian Cook and she was born on 22 August 1874 at First Barrack Ground, Colchester, Essex. She married my g/father Samuel Johns in 1900. She died in Colchester on 2 February 1947. Her father, my gg/grandfather, was Samuel Cook. He was born in 1829 at Coggeshall Essex. The 1881 census has him living in Cannon Street, Colchester, Essex and gives his occupation as Coal Porter. My gg/grandmothers name was Elizabeth Mary Ann Evans, Tailoress, born 18 July 1840. The others listed in the same census at the same address are; Sarah Cook, aged 19, Tailoress. John Cook, aged 16, Coal Porter. Henry Cook, aged 15, Bricklayers Laborer. James Cook, aged 13, Scholar. Alice Cook, aged 11, Scholar. I think I can remember my dad talking about his aunt Alice! They were all living in Cannon Street in 1881 (64 years before I was born). So there must be some relations out there somewhere. The 1901 census has my gg/grandfather Samuel Cook listed as a Fish and Fruit Hawker. (At the age of 70!) |
