I'm very confused about the children of James and Lucy of Selbourn Hampshire. According to the 1851/61/71 census James and Lucy had a daughter Sarah born 1828 and a granddaughter Sarah born 1836. They had a son Adolphus 1835 daughter Ann 1835 and grandchildren James 1852 Elizabeth 1840 and Ann 1856. |

That's the earliest census I've got, couldn't find them earlier. The visitor Elizabeth is on as the granddaughter later on |

Now you see why I'm confused. I think Ann 1835 may be the same Ann who was married to Adolphus and they've put her down as daughter and not daughter in law. |

If i were you i'd order the birth cert for James to see whom his parents were.... For him to be a Cooper he is either illegitimate or the child of a Cooper son. |

Thanks for the help. I'll order Jame's birth certificate, it does seem the only way to sort it all out |
