Iam looking for my great grandfather Josiah Cooper, dont know where or when he was born, all i know is that he had a son William Alfred and there were both merchant seaman cooks

Was William Alfred your grandfather? What do you know about him? When and where was he born? If you don't know that, when was your parent (who is William's child) born and what was his/her mother's name?

We really need some more info before we can help.

My father is roy cooper born in woolwich, london, his father is william alfred, dont know where he was born only know he was born in 1900/01, he married Edith hughes in 1923, and they had 3 children, Leslie, Roy (my father) and Betty, all of the children are now died and we have no one to ask. Their father was Josiah Cooper, dont know when or where he was born or who he was married to. If anybody can help i would be very gratful

your best bet is to try and locate them on the 1911 census this would give both parents names and then you can try for a marriage for Josiah

do you have the marraige cert of 1923 if so who is ediths dad? does this tie up with her family

thanks for all the help i will try out the names and dates that have been found. I know the whole history of \edith Hughes we have traced her family along way back, we are trying to find where she was buried, all we know is that she died in the first 3 months of 1963 in a salvation army in Surrey, the death was registar at Surrey N.W.
