Thanks, don't have access to 1911 census but where was he in 1901 and1891?

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 5 May 2010 23:57

Ok lets start with the basics and go from there....

This is your man not born 1870 but born 2 Qtr 1869?

Births Jun 1869
Cooper Herbert Stoke T. 6b 241

If you know he married care to share his wife's name?

Alot of data has been found for you, but sadly no-one has added info to it, which makes it hard work reading!!

So then we have Herbert Cooper in 1871...

1871 RG number: RG10 Piece: 2875 Folio: 49 Page: 2
Address: John Street, Lower, Stoke Upon Trent, Longton County: Staffordshire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COOPER, George Head M 28 1843 Staffordshire
COOPER, Elizebeth Wife F 26 1845 Staffordshire
COOPER, George Son M 6 1865 Staffordshire
COOPER, Herbert Son M 2 1869 Staffordshire

You do not mention his parents names but from the location you have given the best guess is the one above.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So then we goto 1881.
1881 RG number: RG11 Piece: 2734 Folio: 8 Page: 9
Address: 39, John St, Stoke Upon Trent County: Staffordshire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COOPER, George Head Married M 40 1841 Coal Miner Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Eliza Wife Married F 39 1842 Potters Transferer Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, George Son Single M 16 1865 Potters Clay Wedger Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Herbert Son Single M 11 1870 Potters Jigger Turner Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, James Son Single M 9 1872 Scholar Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Eliza Daughter Single F 1 1880 Longton Staffordshire
....again best guess as you have not mentioned the parents names.... Do you have the birth cert? ( i guess not as you did not quote the right year)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So going on the data we already have this is the rest of his family in 1891, with him missing.

1891 RG number: RG12 Piece: 2181 Folio: 39 Page: 14
Address: 41, John Street, Stoke Upon Trent, Longton County: Staffordshire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COOPER, George Head Married M 50 1841 General Labourer Caverswall Staffordshire
COOPER, Eliza Wife Married F 48 1843 Potters Transferer Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, James Son Single M 17 1874 Potters Cley Wedger Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Eliza Daughter Single F 11 1880 Scholar Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Emma Daughter Single F 9 1882 Scholar Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Samuel Son Single M 7 1884 Scholar Longton Staffordshire

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....and then there is this marriage.
Marriages Dec 1887
Cooper Herbert Burton 6b 555
INSLEY Mary Ann Burton 6b 555
MOORE Eunice Burton 6b 555
PUNTER Joseph Burton 6b 555
Without any spouse names we are in the dark here Sarah.
Do you know the name of the person he married??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OK, going on the data already known we find this...

1911 RG14PN32257 RG78PN1851 RD589 SD2 ED11 SN157
Address: 13 Lewis Street Trehafod Pontypridd County: Glamorganshire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COOPER, Herbert Head Married16 years M 41 1870 Coal Miner Hewer Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Rose Ann Wife Married F 42 1869 Wells Somersetshire
COOPER, Reginald Son Single M 15 1896 Collier Boy Below Ground Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Herbert Henry Son Single M 13 1898 Collier Boy Below Ground Abercynon Glamorgan
COOPER, Ernest Son Single M 11 1900 School Trehafod Glamorgan
COOPER, Violet Daughter Single F 7 1904 School Trehafod Glamorgan
COOPER, Stanley Son Single M 6 1905 School Trehafod Glamorgan

That would lead to the correct marriage (??) which has already been found of...

Marriages Jun 1895
BRINSON Rose Pontypridd 11a 703
Cooper Herbert Pontypridd 11a 703

Sarah, you mention his wife was from Glamorganshire, this appears not to be the case, his children may have been born there but his wife was clearly from Somerset!

Very strange how the first child is born back in Staffordshire? ...and yet you state you thought they were from Glamorganshire?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 1901 census without Herbert....
1901 RG number: RG13 Piece: 5002 Folio: 61 Page: 7
Address: 13, Lewis Street, Ystradyfodwg, Hafod County: Glamorganshire
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COOPER, Rose Wife Married F 32 1869 Dressmaker Wills Somersetshire
COOPER, Reginald Son Single M 5 1896 Longton Staffordshire
COOPER, Herbert H Son M 3 1898 Abernynon Glamorganshire
COOPER, Ernest Son M 1 1900 Hafod Glamorganshire
There is a slim possibility that Herbert was underground at the time of the census and was missed off?
Possibly he was down the coal mine?
WayneTracey
WayneTracey Report 6 May 2010 00:17
Yes Patricia, that is my thought, i have added to my post the 1901 census, the 1911 states he's a Coal Miner Hewer, (these are the people with the pick actually taking the coal off the coalface)
It's very possible the emunerator, when asking about the family, got Herbert's name first then realised he was not there and crossed him out.
Maybe Rose was informed he couldn't be on their's but would probably be included on the institutional one the coal mine 'may' have done?
Sarah
Sarah Report 6 May 2010 22:46
Yes he was a coal miner so this is probably the case,thanks.How do i find this census info if it exists?
WayneTracey
WayneTracey Report 6 May 2010 23:06
Thats our point..... it probably doesn't!
His wife was probably told that one would be done for him at his works, but the reality is they were probably too busy to care and maybe just dismissed the whole thing!
