If it is Amelia's parents you are looking for then you should purchase the marriage certificate which will name her father and make looking for her easier.

I have obtained the marriage certificate as suggested the next problem is that her father Edward Cox was deceased at the time of her marriage the only thing i have got to go by is that he was a plumber and the address she was at the time of marriage was 16 Sheldon Street Croydon I have looked at the 1901 and 1891 census but have come to a dead end

Like you Ihave searched for Edward Cox with daughter Amelia but have been unsuccessful.

Do the witnesses on the marriage certificate help ?

There are a list of Amelia Cox's born around 1885 so picking the right one will not be easy. (None of them are in Croydon by the way).

It might be worth writing to the GRO and asking for a three year search for her.

It does take longer - about three weeks - and I think it costs a little more, but it might work.

This family move around a bit

Thanks for this information it could be of some help gives me something to look into I am also sure that Amelia had a sister called Nance because i recollect them talking about her and that she went to live in Florida and I have a photo of Amelia taken with the four daughters and what looks like Amelia's sister who look a bit younger than Amelia. The witnesses at the marriage do not help as they are charles watson brother and sister
