Find Ancestors

I have this girl down on the 1901 census as being born in 1890, born in Middlesbrough. I am having trouble finding anything further for her. Cannot find a death if she has passed before marriage, cannot find a marriage either. I would be grateful if anyone can help! She is the daughter of Margaret and John Cox. Thanks in advance :)

I can't find a birth but she is down as Janey on the census? It may have been an error on the records or she may just call herself Jane? How confusing!

My g nan was called Ann Jane but was known as Janey!


It's defo Janey on image thou, maybe just a mistake as that's what they always called her?

Thank you george, how dumb of me to not look at past census records! Thank you for that information, thanks to everyone that's helped me! I have never been sure if Janey is a proper first name in itself or just a nickname for Jane's.

Another question, as Robert Westgarth and Jane Cox's surnames are in capitals on the marriage record would it be safe to assume she married him?

No, the type of letters are not significant, you can't assume anything.

In fact if you do a search on freebmd for births after 1911 ( when mother's maiden name was added to the index list ), there are WESTGARTH births where the mother's maiden name was TOWELL.

This suggests that Robert married Maria, but you'd need a certificate in order to be sure about this marriage.
So possibly Jane married Cyril......

Thanks Gwyn I'll have a look for children and see how far I get. It was just a guess because two were in capitals and two weren't.

I am looking for a death date for John Cox b-1865 in Wales (this is Jane/Janey's father) I have found a Middlesbrough death for a John T Cox in 1922 aged 58 (making him born in 1864 if he had reached his birthday in 1922) I know the family remained in Middlesbrough as his wife Margaret passed away there in 1938.

I cannot find John's birth in Wales on the records for 1864 or 1865, so I cannot confirm it is him, especially as the John Cox in the 1922 death has a T initial in his name. Can anybody help please or give me some tips on how to find him?

I found other John Cox deaths in Middlesbrough on FreeBMD but this was the only one that had a similar year of birth to the John Cox I was looking for.

Cyril Meredith 1883 born grimsby,henry 1878,Thomas 1881 dad George 1844/5.
1901 they are with Annie Farthing their mum i think
They are in Durham so the right area.
