Frederick Richard (Dick) Cox. Looking for some information on this person. He is not related to me at all. I am researching for a PhD Thesis on the history of the Electrical Trades Union (Western Australia Branch). Frederick Richard Cox was the Secretary of this organisation from 1926 to 1932. Before this I think he worked as an electrician. He was born in Shoreditch London, was in the army in WWI and moved to Western Australia in 1925. His sister Lilian Florence immigrated to Western Australia in 1927.

He was quite sick over the years 1930 - 1932 and had two major operations. On his doctor's advice he left for a long sea voyage on the 'Oronsay' leaving Fremantle, Western Australia on a trip back to Britain. He arrived in London in 1932 and I have not been able to find out any more about him.

If anyone has any details regarding Frederick Richard Cox please get in touch with me. I would love to be able to fill in some details on him and the part he played in the history of this organisation.

Hi Linda,

I have found what appears to be his army records on Ancestry.co.uk. Some of the paperwork is in very bad condition and difficult to make out, but one page does say 'skilled electrician'. Another page (with pieces missing) is interesting. It doesn't say what for, but I get the impression he asked to be demoted in order to avoid a court martial. If you are not a member of ancestry, it may be worth joining just for this.

Thanks to both Paul and Fairthorn for their messages and information. I am not sure how to use these boards and it was kind of Cynthia to let me know that there were replies to my post.

I have replied to both Paul and Fairthorn but the replies might not show up on this thread.

I have a copy of Frederick's military records from the First World War and they proved very helpful.

I am not sure if casualty record is my Frederick. He would have been 58 in 1944, so maybe a bit old to have enlisted in the Second World War.

Once again thanks for the information.
