Trying to find Cox

Am trying to locate details on my gg,grandmother born Emily Cox (c) 1830 in Fareham Hants, probably Sarisbury area. It would appear that her son, my g,grandfather William Albert Cox born 6th Oct 1846, was illegitimate and that is presumably why I have come to a complete block. William Cox married Elizabeth House in 1873 @ Portsea Island and later resided in Landsport. He was a sick berth attendant on the Indian troop ships - HMS Jumna in 1881. I did find a reference to a marriage of an Emily Cox in Sept 1850, which may be her, in some Sarisbury records but no mention of the husbands name. Also came across a reference to an Albert Cox a carter in the Sarisbury area in 1899 which I suspect because of the same middle name to my g,grandfather may be a relation, possibly a brother. If any of this is familiar to anybody would appreciate any info. Thanks Peter
