Hello, bit of a long shot here as I keep end up hitting a brick wall.

My great-grandfather, born Douglas Leslie Davies on 14th June 1900 in Kingsdown Ringwould, Dover to parents listed as Albert George Davies (a printer master) and Alice Ann Davies (formerly Edwards).

In the 1901 census, Alice is listed as a parlourmaid domestic, single and aged 27, living at 50 Westbourne Park Road, Paddington.
Douglas Leslie is listed as living at 26 Woodfield Place, Paddington with George and Jennie Stone, showing him as being their nephew...

Douglas went on to marry Hannah Elizabeth Stevens on 24th April 1924 in Twickenham, Middlesex where he lived for the rest of his life, with Joshua Leopold Stone listed as Douglas' adoptive father.

I think Joshua Stone was George's son and was married to Ada Francis (formerly Mower) on 11th April 1898.

Confused and would love to fill in the blanks - have I got the right people? What happened to Albert Davies? Why is Alice listing herself as single? What was George and Jennie's relationship with Douglas initially? and also with Alice and/or Albert? How did they know each other?

This is driving me nuts.....

Grateful for any help.

Gill

Orientation only:

Ancestry lists four people named Joshua Stone in England in 1901. Joshua L Stone, married to Ada, is noted as born in Willesden abt 1875; the other three are born Bristol, Leeds and Derbyshire.

In 1891, this Joshua is aged 14, living in Paddington, son to George and Mary A Stone (both born in Stroud in Glouc); there is also an Albert G Stone, shown as son aged 21 [Edited - actually Ancestry thinks it s/be 31, but the number is crossed through so it is difficult to tell]

The family are together in 1881 at 19 Woodfield Road; the 11 yr old is called A George Stone

- and in 1871 at Chippenham Mount, with one year old Albert.

Apologies, I am going nowhere with this, and have run out of time. There is an Albert G Davies b abt 1873 in the Islington area in 1891 and 1901- but he is not a printer (instead a carman) and married to Mary in 1901.

Albert G Stone could be this one in 1901 (married to Emma): Class: RG13; Piece: 5; Folio: 13; Page: 17
