aberflyhalf Report 20 Sep 2009 22:40

First of all I want to say a big thank you to all who have helped me with previous queries.

I have been trying to find the Davies family in Aberdare in the county of Glamorgan Wales. Originally I was given the wrong family by GFHS; but thanks to a Community Member I am sure I have the right Family as it includes my Grandmother in 1891.

In the 1881 Census the family are at Aberdare district Merthyr Tydfil
Address given as 42 Hirwain Road [poss.Hirwaun Road]
David Davies 33 occ. Collier [does that mean occasional?]
Elizabeth Davies 38
Elizabeth Davies 12
John Davies 10
Mary Davies 7
Thomas Davies 6
David Henry
Davies 4
Gwen Davies 9 months

In the 1891 Census the town is Cwmdare Aberdare Glamorgan
Merthyr Tydfil. Address as 38 Harwaun Road Aberdare

David Davies 43 b/place given as Llanddarog Carmarthenshire
Elizabeth 48
John 20
Mary 18
Thomas 16
David 14
Gwen 10
Richard 7
Morgan Davies
Sarah Elizabeth Parmer [Parmee} granddaughter 6 Wattstown

My Grandmother Sarah E. Parmee must have been a very busy 6 yr old when the Census was taken in 1891 as she is also listed on the Ystradyfodwg Census for that time as well being enumerated as being in Wattstown at the very same time.

Any help as regards this family pre 1881 or post 1891 would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

You will need a birth certificate to find out Elizabeths maiden name.

Then you need to find a marriage certificate to find out David's fathers name.

Possible birth... ?

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915 about Gwen Davies
Name: Gwen Davies
Year of Registration: 1880
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Merthyr Tydfil
County: Breconshire, Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan
Volume: 11a
Page: 484

When ordering a certificate you can stipulate parents names , then if it is the wrong one, you are not paying a full fee.

Hello

As promised:

Today I have received Gwen's [Davies] Birth Cert, which states that she was born on 27 June 1880 daughter of David [Coal miner] and Elizabeth Davies living at 44 Hirwain Road Aberdare; registered 13 July 1880 by her mark.

Elizabeth Davies formerly JAMES.

Please could I ask if anyone could possibly shine a light on Elizabeth's and David's parentage; and on their past/present [then] family line up to 1901.

Thanking you

To Von

Thank you for this information, I shall be continuing this tree branch.

Query: Would it mean that Ann Griffiths and Daniel Lewis were parents of either individual or witnesses to the Marriage seeing as all the refs.nos. are the same?

Thanking you

Ed Stone

Ed Stone Report 18 Oct 2009 23:14

Hello Aberflyhalf,
No, it just means that there were two weddings recorded on the same page. It's been established that David Davies and Elizabeth James are one couple so the other couple who were married were Ann Griffiths and Daniel Lewis.

To Ed Stone

Thank you for your reply.

Next step will be to order Marriage Certificate for David Davies and Elizabeth James.

Thanks again for answering the query
