Trying to find family members of twin brothers, Harry (my grandad) and Arthur (my great uncle) Davies. They were born in Crumpsall Workhouse (123 Crescent Road, Crumpsall, Manchester) on 15 August 1919. They had a sister, Dora Davies born on 16 June 1915 in Withington Workhouse, Nell Lane. Their mother's name was Jessie (possibly short for Jessica) Davies, born in October 1899 at 46 Carisbrook Street, Harpurhey. In 1915 she was living at 89 Westmoreland Street, Harpurhey. Her occupation was a pattern card maker of 53 Ardwick Green North, Manchester. Harry and Arthur Davies were put into Styal Cottage Homes, Cheshire in 1922 (aged 3) and Dora then followed in 1926 (aged 11). In 1926 it was known that Jessie was living at 61 Albion Street, Queens Park, Harpurhey. When Harry and Arthur reached the age of sixteen (1935), it was known that their mother, Jessie, was living with her partner and they had other children. The surname 'Clinton' may also be linked to them. Arthur joined the royal navy in 1940 and died in 1941 when the HMS Auckland was hit. |
