Hi Nancy
John DAVIS married Amelia Sarah WOOD in Guildford WA in 1856 (reg 984). This certificate would give you a lot of information about both parties but WA certs are pricey (about A$30).
Not sure if you have this already but he and Amelia had several children in Guildford WA; seems to be some significance of 2nd given name 'Law'...
1. Amelia Law 1857 2. Wm Hy Law 1858, m. Ada Emily HARDWICK, d. 6/8/1931 Bayswater, aged 73 (as LAW-DAVIS) 3. Fredk Law 1860, d. 6/7/1918 Maylands aged 59 4. John Law b. 1862, d. 1865 aged 2 5. Benjamin Law 1864, m. Arabella Jane OKELY 1884, d. 11/11/1930 Claremont aged 66 6. Joseph Law 1868, m. Sarah MONK 1889, d. 15/5/1943 aged 74 Victoria Park
Curiously, a John Law DAVIS died in WA in 1870 aged 54...but this makes him born c1816.
Wm’s wife Ada is also buried as LAW-DAVIS; she died 19/5/59 Armadale aged 88; both buried in Baptist section of Karrakatta Cemetery. They had the following known chn:
1. Olive Amelia Law DAVIS 1899 Bayswater, m. Chas Henry Victor HARDING 1930 Beverley [as LAW-DAVIS], d. 30/9/1987 Manning aged 88
2. Ada Katherine Law DAVIS 1900 Perth
3. Harold Wm LAW-DAVIS 31/7/1903 Bayswater, m. Annie Marshall ANGWIN 1927 Perth
4. Muriel Winifred LAW-DAVIS 1905 Warbrook, m. Robert HERBERT 1928 Perth, d. 18/5/1981 Armadale aged 75
5. Rowland Henry LAW-DAVIS b. 24/8/1907 Warbrook, m. Joan E TUCKWELL 1941, d. 2001 Bayswater
6. John Ernest LAW-DAVIS b. 14/5/1909 Bayswater, m. Ethel L HARRIS 1933, d. 29/5/1967 Bayswater aged 58.
Benjamin and Arabella only had 1 known child:
1. Jno Francis Law DAVIS 1885, m. Clara Annie CRUTCHLEY 1916 Claremont, d. 14/6/67 South Perth aged 82 (Clara died 14/12/1977 aged 94; both buried Roman Cathlolic section Karrakatta)
Can't find a death for Arabella, but she was born in 1860 in Perth to John & Elizabeth nee REILLY.
Joseph’s wife, Sarah nee MONK, was buried as Sarah Law DAVIS, died 25/6/1947 aged 78 in Mt Lawley. They had 2 known children:
1. Evelyn Sarah DAVIS 1889, m. Geo G BROWN 1916 Wellington
2. Wm Jno Law DAVIS 1891
My husband's grt grt grandfather was also a pensioner guard who came out on a convict ship with his family in 1868 to WA. :-) I found info on them on Perth DPS (Dead Persons Society) web site. I can see "Stag" arriving in 1855 (not 1853?) but I can't see John listed. There was also information at the Battye Library, so may be worth an email to the WA State Library...
P.S. I am not related!
