I am trying to find info on my grandmother Cema Davis. Her fathers name was John & mother Eliza ???. She married Robert Arthur Yapp in 1900, her age was given as 26 y.o.The 1901 census says her name was Emma, born in Brierley Hill, Dudley. She died in 1943 in Wolverhampton.
I have been unable to find out when or where she was born.
Could anyone help?

Melanie,
Thank you for your reply. The lady you found (i know she was alady) was my mother. It is her mother that is causing me the trouble & as we live in Australia it is difficult to find info.
Regards

Hi Glitter Baby,
May I call you Glitter Baby, thank you for all your info
it is very interesting. We live in Australia & have done for the past 38 years so trying to find info is very hard.On Cema's marriage certificate her fathers occupation is given as Boiler Maker Foreman, which matches your info but somewhere in the past I thought her mother was Eliza.
When she married her residence was given as 35 Bourne Street Dudley.
Maybe the info you list is the way I should follow, it is certainly more than I found.
Melanie has put on a boy called John who matches the brother in your list & a girl named Serna, which spoken with the midlands accent, could sound like Cema.
They did very strange things 100 years ago didn't they, in the 1901 census when she was married to my grandfather she gave her name as Emma. Maybe as his occupation was a clothier, she may have been putting on airs & graces.
Thank you again for your time & the results, I will certainly look down this path.
Regards,
Barrie

Melanie,
The John Davis you list could well be the brother of my grandmother Cema (Coma) (Emma) or which ever name she would call herself.
The question I wouldn't mind an answer to was you state he married Sarah Fox, in another reply from Maureen, she has found the family with the mother named Sarah. I was wondering if Sarah Fox was his mother not his wife?
thank you again.

Barrie

Barrie.

You will find that those who have replied are not related only doing census look ups for you.The only way you will get the marriage info is by sending for the marriage cert.Or wait and hope someone else related has already done so and is willing to share the details.

. You might have a very long wait as not everybody is interested in reseaching family history Apart from that getting the cert yourself is very satisfying. You also get the witness names and both fathers names and occupations which is your proof to take you furher back in the census.

You can order the marriage cert online from GRO using a credit card.

I have gt grandparents from Sedgley Staffordshire. I have found The Ancient Manor of Sedgley a useful site. It covers Brierly.
