Jewish - Davis family Machester

Is there anybody who can give me any information about the Davis family who lived in Cheetham, Manchester.
My grandmother is Frances Pauline Davis and her father Thomas
She married Charles Robinson.

We know they changed their name to Davis and my have come from Russia. Grandma had a sister whose family lived in Wythenshaw. She died in their house.

There is one family in the BDM Census records that looked possible but the name is Frances Alice Robinson

Does anybody know where one can find name changes of Jewish immigrants

The marriage cert is correct - I have a copy. I remember my grandmother

However I have seen this family before but they are not the correct family. That Frances's second name is Alice not Pauline.

We were told that grndma's family being Jewish from Russia changed their name to Davis from what we don't know how to find out.

Soon after arriving in England from Russia,n the 1890's, my friend's relatives were sent off to the Jewish Free School where they were told their name was now Lewis........nothing more complicated than that. Their original name was passed down the generations by word of mouth.
