STANLEY FORREST DAVIS, wife MURIEL, Sydney, Australia. Stanley was my uncle, and I believe he used to own a "corner store" at Pymble in the 1950s.
Any information would be appreciated.

Sorry about this but it was the first thing I found

Stanley Forrest Davis, 30, storekeeper
convicted, with a recommendation for mercy of having received two toss of chocolate, the property of Ve-Toy Biscuit Pty., Ltd Red- fern, between September 1 and October 11,
1946, which he knew had been stolen.
Davis was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment

Wow Astra, how exciting! This does sound like him, my father, his brother, was born in 1917 so the age seems right. I wonder what a "toss" is? Where did you find this information?? I am fascinated.

I think it is a misprint of Tons maybe?
I found it on Trove which has the newspapers archived.
If you go here http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper?q= you can see what else you can find.

A "toss" is an outter or gross measure, being 12 dozen quantity of an item. Hope that clarify the meaning for you.
