Hi, I'm trying to trace my great grandfather - James Clark Edwards. The LDS site has info that he was born 5 Nov 1859 at Stonehaven, Scotland, which was submitted from someone's family tree data but I've been unable to verify this through Scotlandspeople records. Can anyone give me some advice as to where I might go from here? He married Anne Robertson Bennet 2 Dec 1881 at Glamis, Scotland and they migrated to Australia. Thanks

Could be that he was the illegitimate son of James Edwards and his "servant" Catherine Clark

How intriguing! - could that mean that his birth wasn't registered?

A distinct possibility. Whereabouts in Australia did he end up?

They went to Maryborough, Qld in 1882 where they had 5 children, then went to Otago, NZ, where they had another 5 children.

Ah, I see that he died in 1938. Does his death certificate disclose any parents' details?

His parents names on the death certificate are James Edwards and Catherine Edwards nee Clark so that ties in with the census. On his marriage certificate his parents are listed as William Edwards and Catherine Clark - both deceased in 1881
