JANE EDWARDS, born about 1870-1885, was unmarried when she gave birth to Richard Walter Edwards in October 1901. No father is shown on the birth certificate. Her occupation is given as Domestic Servant, and the place of the birth was listed as 100 Welbourne Road Tottenham. There is no sign of her at that address in the preceding 1901 Census. Almost a year later she gave up the infant to the care of the Ware (Herts) Union Workhouse, after which he thrives and goes on to lead an exemplary life. But the mystery is what happened to Jane Edwards. Is she part of your tree Perhaps? All suggestions, even long-shots, are welcome. |
