I think he was born in the Llanrwst area of Gwynedd in North Wales in 1912.He had brothers called William and Bert, and sisters Lily,Rosie and Julia. I have found through Genes,a copy of his marriage certificate, and his death certificate, but there is no record of his birth. Can anyone help?

1912 should be showing on www.freebmd.org.uk .... which is free to use, so you can check it yourself

How do you know the 1912 birth date?

If it's from the age on his marriage cert, remember that if he married before his birthday in the year, he could have been born in 1911. (Or the age might not be accurate.)

Searching at FreeBMD, just use the name David Edwards (without the Thomas), and search in a couple of years around 1912. I have no idea what registration district the place in question might be in, so I don't know which results might be relevant, but there are a couple of David Ts you could consider.

Have you obtained the birth certificates for any of his siblings? For any born after 1911, it would state the mother's birth surname. This could help you find a record of David Thomas's birth.

So how about David was born before his mother married?

Marriages Dec 1913
Edwards George Roberts Llanrwst 11b 600
Roberts Margaret Edwards Llanrwst 11b 600

If the mother's name on the birth cert matches -- and the parents' names match with the birth certs for Lily and Bertie -- then somebody would be somebody's uncle.

If his marriage certificate names his father, you could use that as a checking point when ordering a birth certificate.

True, Gwyn ... unless his mother wasn't married and the birth is the one I cited.

There isn't actually a record of a birth for the name David (T/Thomas or otherwise) Edwards at the time given, to order a certificate for.

Using the father's name as a checking point in that case could mean not getting the certificate for the correct birth.

So unfortunately your advice could be bad advice if it were applied to the David T Roberts birth!

But using the *mother's name* as the checking point could work. ;)

Unfortunately Dianne doesn't seem to be too interested in sharing any more info she may have -- if she knows all the kids' names, doesn't she know a parents' name? I suspect that what she has found isn't "a copy of his marriage certificate", it's the record of the marriage registration. What is needed is the marriage certificate, indeed.

And the death certificate should have an exact date of birth on it. Maybe we could have that, too.

Maybe she'll respond to some of these suggestions tomorrow.
