Can anyone help. I have found my grandparents marriage certificate with help and I have now got my great grandads name. He was Robert James Evans. I am still looking for my grandad Albert Edward's birth certificate. He was born in Bargoed Mid Glamorgan. He died 11.05.1977 in Abergavenny.

How old was he when he died ? approx date of birth.?

Pauline Report 5 Apr 2008 12:20

Hi Julie, My grandad was born on 11th June 1903. That would make him 74 when he died.

Did a search for Robert Evans in the 1901 census.
There is not 1 Robert Evans in Glamorganshire in 1901. I know this is 18months before your grandad was born, but.. could he have been born elsewhere, but grew up in Bargoed, and has put this as his place of birth ?

You may have to wait until 2012 when the 1911 census is released to know for sure.

Try and find him &/or his father on electoral rolls, work backwards from where he last lived, and see what you can find out that way.

Hi Julie, Where do I go to find electoral roles. My G Grandad Robert may have been born in Manchester.

I live in Austarlia and our bigger library's have a 'look-up' service for the old electoral rolls.
So, I would check out the library near where your grand father and his parents lived.

There were 23 Albert Edward Evan's born in 1903, this (I think) is the most likely.

England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index: 1837-1983 about Albert Edward Evans
Name: Albert Edward Evans
Year of Registration: 1903
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Newport M
County: Glamorgan, Gwent, Monmouthshire
Volume: 11a
Page: 300

If you are interested in buying the certificate,
you can stipulate "father- Robert" and if it is incorrect you do not pay the full fee.

Hi Julie, I also live in Australia and I live a long way from a major Library. I may also be wrong about Pop's date of birth. It may well be 1902
Thanks

For electoral roll details you would need to e-mail the library near where they lived in Wales.

Pauline, re-check your grand parents marriage certificate.
Is there any extra info on ther ?
It may give you his age, then you will know if he was born in 1902 or 1903.
Also. in the birth registration I posted the "District" was Newport. That does not mean he was born at Newport just in that district.
Unfortunately, I do not know what district Bargoed is in.

Just had a thought ! !

My husbands grandfather was born at Argoed which is just over 2km east of Bargoed and I have his birth certififate...the district is 'Bedwellty' !
I will have another look for your grandad there and see if anything comes up.

No, the birth registration which I have posted still looks like your best bet.

You may have to wait until the release of the 1911 census and see what that tells you.

Best of luck, Julie

Thank you Julie, I have checked the marriage cert. & it says he was 22 but he married in April and his birthday was in June. So it is 1903. I will try and find the nearest library to Bargoed
Thanks again

Sorry Julie I have misled you. My grandad Albert Evans was born in 1903 but Robert James Evans (his father) was born in Abergavenny about 1869. I have now find out that Robert James Evans wife Sarah was born in Manchester. I have been told they either got married in Abergavenny or Manchester.
Thanks

Can anyone help me. I was given birth certificate details for Albert Edward Evans but unfortunately it was the wrong one. The family seem to have been born in different places. Robert James Evans abt 1869was born in Abergavenny & his wife Sarah was born in Manchester abt 1869. Mary Emma abt 1894 bornborn Tydvil Glamorgan, Ella May abt 1896 born Tydvil, Sydney Jas abt 1898 born New Tredegar Glamorgan, William Henry abt 1900 born Glascote Warwickshire. There was also my grandad born 11.6.1903 & Arthur 1904?. Can anyone help me?
