Can only find above on 1841.1851 and 1861 census. Supposed to have been born in Colchester Essex approx 1808. Wife Ann (Holland) but on 1841 census as Elizabeth???? Children who survived Lydia born 1840
John born 1843
Bartholamew born 1845 (my great grandfather)
Henry born 1848

He was still alive in 1869 when Bartholamew married, but cannot find him on any 1871 census, so he must have died. But John Evans such a common name it is hard to find correct one. Any help very much appreciated.

Are you thinking he is alive at the time of marriage because it does not say deceased on the wedding certificate as that is not always the case and many marriage certifcates have father's names and occupations entered even though they are deceased at the time of marriage. I have found that many times. Irene

Thanks Irene I did not know that, probably explains a problem on the other side of my family too, where I thought Father was still alive as Marriage Certificate stated Occupation etc.
