You can confirm his parents by buying the birth certificate ......... it is the ONLY way to be sure that you have the right parents. Everything else is supposition
A certificate costs £7 from www.gro.gov.uk

Sylvia I agree with you on the Nicholas in the childrens names, i have a similar thing in the Brooks branch of the tree.
On his Army call up papers he's
Clarence F N Evans
On his service records he's mainly Francis Clarence Nicholas Evans
On his marriage certificate he's Francis Nicholas Clarence Evans
So as you say the best thing is now to send away for his birth certificate, which hopefully will provide useful information.
Hopefully it won't through up another mystery as the marriage certificate did for my grandmothers parents!
I agree with what you've found & it all looks very promising. I did a 1891 census search myself & found a William Henry T Evans aboard HMS Cambridge, which was used for Gunnery training, & was docked in Devonport.
I'll come back here & post the results from his birth certificate when it arrives.
Much appreciation for all your work, Tracey

Hi Sylvia
YIPEE you were right, the certificate arrived this morning.
FATHER: William Henry Thomas Evans MOTHER: Catherine Evans nee Nicholas
As we both thought he was born in East Stonehouse Devonport UK.
Right i'm off to fill in all the new information on the tree & start doing some more searches to see if i can take this line back any further.
Much Thanks & appreciation, Tracey

Hi Just thought i'd pop back & share some info, from the census information you found, i've managed to track down the General Records Office Index numbers for the children.
I now suspect that Ralph & Winifred may have been twins, on the census returns they share the same age & the only births i can find for Winifred are to close in months to Ralph's. For them to be individual siblings. Obviously i'd need to send away for birth certificates to confirm this, but that will have to wait for now.
Regards Tracey

this looks like the biorth registrations for Ralph and Winidfred ..... from www.freebmd.org.uk
AB+ND it does look as thopught they are twins. The birth certificates should tell you which was the eldest, as I beleive they put the time of birth on twin certificates.
Births Jun 1895 (>99%) Evans Ralph Nicholas E. Stonehouse 5b 281 Evans Winifred Kate E. Stonehouse 5b 281
