Evans, Alfred Penry (1877-1954)

Catherine born 09/02/1817 Abergwilli, her parents were John Jones and Mary nee Williams, I don't know who she married?

Ann Griffiths was Thomas' sister and I don't know who she married. Ann was born in c.1841 Llantrisant, Glamorgan.

Ann's parents were: Evan John Griffiths bap. 19/02/1803 Parish Coychurch and Margaret Ann Williams bap.05/03/1803 Llandeilo Fan, Beacon.

A bit of info on Alfred Penry Evans:

Educated Bala-Bangor Wales; ordained 1900; Llandudno Wales 1900-04; Porth Rhondda Valley Wales 1904-08; Scarborough Wales 1908-13; Great George St Liverpool England 1913-23; Walter Rd Swansea Wales 1923-28; Collins St Melbourne Vic. 1929-46. Thank you in advance for any info.

Bronwyn
PS. Yes I had a note prior regards The Jones

I googled Alfred Penry Evans ......... and got only 1 response. An article from The Argus (Melbourne), dated 28 December 1928.

You MUST read the actual newspaper artcile as the elctronic transcriptio is the pits!!

In it is says that Alfred is the son of the Rev Tonas Penry Evans, a Welsh preacher and lecturer. It sayss that Alfred married a daughter of Alderman W>H> Mathias of Tynyeymmor Hall, Rhondda Valley in 1904

so two more clues!!

I hope he isn't like my husband's grandfather ....... who was a Welsh Wesleyan Methodist Minister (ie Independent Minister), who was born Richard Roberts, apprenticed as a cabinet maker, then went to theological college in his late 20s ......... and somewhere along the line acquired the middle name of Morton

it makes them even more difficult to find!!

and the trail goes cold, so all I find is a biography of Thomas with a link to the Library list of notable welsh folk

http://www.dyfedfhs.org.uk/welshbio.htm

I'm not going to hazzard a guess, I suppose a marriage cert might help but not if father is yet another thomas ! Pendry might be a
family name?

I pondered over an english 1861 where poss Thomas is a boarder and clerk to a public ....?

Bronwyn Report 1 Sep 2009 06:34

Wow, you guys are good, Thanks a lot, great work. So to clarify, we think Alfred Evans father may have married twice or three times?:

Thomas P Evans married:

Mary Evans 1874 (is that her maiden name or married name)?
Alice Guy 1874
Emma McLaren 1869

So Annie Evans must be Alfred Penry Evans wife (nee Mathias) m 1904.

Geez-a-Lou trying to find a nephew connection can be tricky.;c)

I'll wait and see what is uncovered.

And quick did I add...................

I thought being a Ordained Minister it would be easy but The Welsh still laugh at anyone today who says I'm Thomas Evans and you are too, you must be my cousin...

Thank you once again, I'll do a bit more surfing and will get back to you.
