Trying to find Gardner

I am trying to trace details of my husbands grandfather named Ernest Alfred Gardner, born around 1880. He lived in Oxted in Surrey when he married a Ada Ann Malyon, in Oxted, Surreyin 1909. His father`s name on his marriage certificate was Alfred Gardner, a platelayer. Ernest had 4 children, before being killed in action in 1916 in the Somme. I have since discovered that he said he was born in Brighton, this is on his army recruitment papers. Any info would be marvellous.
