Alfred Green born 1875/6, Newark, Peterborough

Please can somebody help. Turns out a third cousin I located on another site may not be related after all - we met for the first time yesterday and there are some discrepancies in our trees.

I definitely have in my tree Edward Green and Elizabeth Bolton and their nine children, as does my "cousin"

The discrepancy is with one of Edward and Elizabeth's children, Alfred, born according to my tree in 1875 in Newark near Peterborough. My tree shows Alfred married to Elizabeth Keely (maybe Sarah Elizabeth) definitely born in Welney, Norfolk around 1874. My cousin's tree shows Alfred married to Elizabeth Mary Keeley born in Norfolk still but in 1872.

Children of Alfred and Elizabeth/Sarah Elizabeth Keely/Keeley all the same, except for their son George b1895/6. My George was George Harry, my cousin's is George William.

My cousin says she can't see the problem here, but as she's descended from her George William (my ancestor was George's uncle so this branch does not affect me as such) she can't be my cousin if my George was indeed a George Harry.

I only have access to this site and one other site, both of which give similar information for the subscription fee.

Does anyone please have any subscription to a different site, who would mind checking things out for us.

Hopefully it's a case of one of us making a mistake with the middle name rather than a case of us not being related after all. We got on so well that I'm sure we'll remain friendly, but it would be nice to know whether or not we are actually related.

Thank you in advance to anyone who may offer help.

No, I have no marriage certificate. The names of the first seven children come from a photograph taken in 1915. On the back of the photo the name Harry is in brackets after George's name, so I always assumed that was his middle name, or that perhaps he was known as that and his middle name was Henry. Definitely no mention of a George William anywhere on that photo.

My cousin has the marriage showing as Hayfield, which is in Derbyshire I think. I can't see the logic in two people born in the same area (I think 30 or so miles apart) marrying over 100 miles away.

All nine children of Alfred and Elizabeth/Sarah were born in or near Peterborough. I'm positive about that.

Sandie

Sandie Report 25 Jan 2009 10:39

The 1892 Hayfield marriage would have made Alfred only 17 when he married, so I don't think that's right anyway.

My main concern is George Harry/George William. If they're not the same person then the lady who I thought was my third cousin can't be.

The George (Harry) in my photo was 19 at the time of the family photo I have according to the notes on the back. So the George Harry death could not have been him.

Perhaps I should be looking for a Henry/Harry then, with George as a middle name? Which would totally blow any connection with my "cousin" out of the water.

She is insistent that hers is a George William.

so there are two in that area all i can surgest is to get the birth cert for them,to see who there parents are you have the photo of george so i would get yours first thats the only way to prove who is the right son for the family unless they lost a george and the photo name should have been the surviving son

you need to find the family in 1901 to look for george's age ,See if one did die
