Find Ancestors

Trying to find Marian Payne Green. She would have been born in circa 1920'ish and married Brian Moss in Barton, Lancashire in 1943. Son, Howard, was born in 1948. In 1951, when Howard was 3 Marian left the family and got a divorce from Brian sometime between 1951 and 1959 (I belive) after which my trail runs cold. I am the wife of Howard's son and would be very grateful for any information or leads

Do you have the marriage certificate? It will give her age and father's name.

Are you guessing that Payne was her birth surname? It's difficult to tell.

If you could identify her birth, you could learn both parents' surnames, find their marriage, etc. This could lead to finding her siblings' families or members of her extended family, who could have information about her.


There doesn't appear to be a Howard Moss born 1948 in Lancashire in the GRO. Ah, born in Cumberland, mother's surname Green.

The only Marian P Green birth (mother Smith) 1917-1923 was in Edmonton reg dist.

Along with Marian there are two other Green mmn Smith births in that area

Have already done a search on this site and there doesn't appear to be anyone jumping out as having her on their tree.

We only got the information at the weekend so haven't had a chance to get hold of the marriage certificate yet but thought I'd try this avenue in the meantime to see if (on the very odd chance) someone on this site knew - but was not related to - her. My father-in-law was told little to nothing about her other than the fact that her name was Marian Payne Green - but on the marriage listing she appears as Marian P Green so am assuming the Payne was a middle name. As you say hopefully will be able to trace relatives if I trace back up her tree. I am just trying to get this moving asap as if she is still alive she will be fairly elderly now and so every minute counts. There was a rumour that she may have died in Kent in 1974 (a relative (on the Moss side) thought they may have seen something in a paper) but have not found a trace of a record of death for either a Marian Green or a Marian Moss in late 1973, 1974 or early 1975.

I'm sure you have realised that she may have remarried so you wouldn't find a death in Green or Moss. Perhaps going through the marriages post 1951 for a Marian P Moss would be worthwhile.
