My grandfather Frederick John Green seems to have vanished into thin air, he was born in St. Helens Lancs in 1903 but can't find him or his parents on 1911 census. Parents are John Green and Mary Ellen nee Danby. I know they lived in Central Street in St Helens later in the 1920s, but that's all the info I have - can anyone help?

I've got his birth cert, that's where I got John and Mary Ellen from. He was born 7/10/1903 in St. Helens. Although there's some doubt as to his real date of birth - he always celebrated his birthday on 17/10. And his death cert gives his dob as 17/9/03!
In 1911 census the one entry with 1903 date is totally wrong, the names are wrong and the family seems far too wealthy.
I've got a birth cert for a Mary Ellen Danby born in Rainhill (an area of St Helens) in 1868 but not really sure if she's the right person.
I found an entry for a John and Mary E Green in 1911 census but no children listed, and I am fairly certain that Fred had at least one brother and possibly a sister. But of course they may have been staying with granny on the night of the census, who knows?
I've run out of credits for 1911 and can't afford to buy anymore till pay day :) But when I do I'll run the search of Mary with Fred in Prescot...stupidly I didn't think to put Prescot instead of St Helens when searching, even though I know the record office is there...can you tell I'm a newbie??
Many thanks everyone for the input,
Margaret

on Frederick's birth cert does it gives John's occupation and full address???

Yes, Victoria, he was a general labourer and the address is 14 Merton Bank Road, St Helens. I've tried searching using the address but they weren't still living there in 1911, neither were they in Central Street, which is the only other address I have.
By 1928, John was deceased, he is listed as such on Fred's wedding cert. He could of course have died much sooner. When I check the reference for Mary and Fred it might be that she is listed as a widow.
I couldn't find any marriage details for John and Mary Ellen either, and I did wonder whether they hadn't bothered to marry, even though she gives her name as Green on Fred's birth cert.
Although I was brought up by my grandparents I now realise I was never told any information about his family. I know he was brought up as a catholic and became an anglican when he married and this caused a rift between him and his family. At his funeral several strangers turned up, one of whom was introduced to me as 'Uncle Jim' - I assumed he was Fred's brother (I was only 11 at the time so this is a very vague memory). So looking for a Fred and Jim together might prove fruitful. I'm frustrated at not being able to search 1911 at the moment. I was planning a trip to Kew this week but it didn't happen. Never mind, pay day on Friday!

Found him! but not until I'd wasted about 100 credits :(
His name had been transcribed Fredrick. His mother isn't listed (dead? but father isn't listed as a widower) but not only are his father and brothers there but also his grandfather and uncle. Result!
Many thanks to you all for your suggestions and help.
