1911 Census tells us that there was a John William Green listed as the second son of Laban Green, he was a scholar aged 8 and was born at Green Hill Lane Riddings near Alfreton Derbyshire, however there is no corresponding record on the official BMD, I have ordered every possible certificate without any luck. His parents moved from Riddings to Eckington and then settled in Cheterfield.
Seems funny this is the only child with 2 names, all his other siblings only had one name.
I wonder if its possible he was adopted, can anyone throw any light on this, it would be gratefully appreciated.

Could this birth be a possibility:-

Name: John William Green
Year of Registration: 1903
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Mansfield
County: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 78

Or this one in the right district but without middle name (which could have been added at baptism):-

Name: John Green
Year of Registration: 1903
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Chesterfield
County: Derbyshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 716

I have a copy of the 1911 census with his family on it and John William is on that ( I wonder if he died as a baby)

Thats the right family, but Iam just trying to find what happened or became of John William born in 1903

Have looked at 1911 census and it seems there are two children of same age, Frederick and John William. Is it possible they were twins and only one got registered? Seems improbable though.

Have you tried this one?

Births Jan-Mar 1903
Green William Belper 7b 633

I noticed on the 1911 census there is also a Frederick born the same year is this his brother?

Wilma, I was thinking along the same lines but either the birth or death must have been registered.

Yes Fredrick was his brother

I wonder if one of these births could be him (if he's 8 in 1911 his birth could have been in 1902):-

Name: John Green
Year of Registration: 1902
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Belper
County: Derbyshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 679

Or

Name: John Charles Green
Year of Registration: 1902
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Belper
County: Derbyshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 671

There were some mistakes made on census returns (at least in my family there were), so perhaps the wrong name was recorded.

Kath , Athough a lot of the Green family were born in Belper, and there was a lot of them, John is not the right one, he may have belonged to another relation

Frederick's dob is 23rd March 1903 but not registered until Apr/Jun quarter. Both John William and Frederick are listed as 8 on the 1911 census so, yes they could be twins or J W could have been born just after 1st April 1902.
Have got both the Mansfield 1903 cert. also one for Belper 1902 neither of them are correct.
Have also ordered the 1903 Belper for Joseph William Green as someone noted the name maybe wrong. I have made notes on the other suggestions listed and will try them if Joseph William turns out to be wrong.
Thanks for posting this here Jim, would never have thought of it, and thanks also to all who replied
