Hi I'm trying to get info on the parents of my great grandfather herbert hall, I'm fairly new to this and its a bit tricky innit? would it be best to just send for his birth cert? what if I can't find the entry in BMD? would appreciate any tips |

unfortunately there are a couple of possibles on 1881 census, you would need to find who is parents were from the birth cert |

Getting his birth certificate is the only sure way to get the names of his parents, including his mother's maiden name, and where he was born/where they lived. |

do you have great grandmothers surname to look for a marrige index a cert. should give fathers name.Do you have any detail of children and births as a cert. will give mothers maiden name if you don't know it and the work backwards from there. |
