hit a problem ? ihave a marriage cert for her aged 24 in 1895.and a death cert aged 48 in 1919 but cannot find record of birth. believe she was born in leeds and fathers name on marriage cert is elyzah george gledhill any help please

It could be that Emma birth wasn't recorded. It wasn't complusory until 1875

If the marriage was in 1864, then maybe the person registering her birth just recorded it wrongly, or it has been mistranscribed.

Just looked at the 1871 census page. It says that Emma was adopted>

There is a comment in the occupation box but I can't read it.

If she was adopted then that would fit the birth record I found:-

but to know who her parents were Keith will have to buy the cert.

Could be that she was the daughter of a sibling of Emma who either died or was unmarried, hence the name Fletcher, and as Elijah and her were going to adopt the girl, her birth was recorded with his name as well?
Could also be that she was Emma's daughter to someone else and Elijah just adopted her.
But those are just theories.
Need to see the cert. to see what it says.

I've looked at the census record and can't make out what it says either.
