Ellen Harris born Mereworth Kent abt1831 married to Steven Stevens of Maidstone Kent.Ellen's mothers name was Rebecca born abt1815 in Barming Kent.Would like to find out about the Harris family.

Working backwards, Rebecca is in 1901 and 1891 in the Norwich union Workhouse in Potter Heigham Norfolk, showing her year and place of birth as Barming Kent 1815.
In 1881 she is in Swanscombe aged 67 living with Ellen Stevens 50 and styled "daughter in law" but I think it should be "Mother in law"
In 1871 Rebecca (1806 given as year of birth this time) is in Swanscombe and "on the parish" with granddaughter Rosina Stevens b1857 Northfleet Kent
Cant find her at all 1861

As regards the possible Ellen in 1851 above -cant be right one as that Ellen is shown 1841 as d of thomas and Martha

Given that Ellen appears to have been born before Rebecca married -I looked for Ellen Stevens bc1831 Mereworth and of course found her with husbsnd Steven 1871 and 1881, and so going round in circles -what evidence do you have for saying that Ellen is Rebecca/s daughter? 0r that Ellen was born Ellen Harris? Have you found Stevens marriage?

I found like you did rebecca 67 and Ellen 50 living in the same house it said mother in law but i thought they must have got it wrong.And Mereworth is very close to barming maybe four miles.there is a John jackson on gene's who has rebecca down as Ellens mother he is in my tree matches,i have tryed to conntact him but he does not reply.Thomas Jackson was married to Rosina Stevens she was illegitimate. Gillian i must say thank you for your help on this it is so much appreciate.

I have looked again at the 1881 census and it shows "daughter in law " against Rebecca but she cannot be daughter in law to Ellen who is head of the household -I think "daughter in law" has been put in wrong column and Ellen is the daughter in law of Rebecca. This means that she was NOT born Harris or Stephens so I have trawled through the baptisms for mereworth and only the following fit the time of Ellens birth
Eleanor Morphew bap23/101831 d of Edward and Ann
Eleanor Phillips bap14/10/1832 d of Thomas and Maria
But I cant find a marriage that fits for either tho as you have said it could have been in Ireland
Stephen Stevens was clearly born before Rebecca's marriage to William Harris in 1839 and therefore took her name although he appears with her in 1851 in Swanscombe as Stephen Harris b 1835 Staplehurst together with Isaac b1843 Swanscombe I have considered the possibility he married as Harris ut not found anything
