I have been trying to find a birth certificate for William Harris born about 1868 in Llanhilleth in Wales. His father was Joseph Harris . I have rung all the local offices but they have been unable to help me. Is there anyone out there who can help or give me any idea what to do next? Any ideas would be gratefully received

Do you have a marriage for his parents Janet?
Just thinking if William was born out of wedlock his birth cert would not have a father on at all. Did anyone mention having any William Harris certs without a fathers name?

using this site - v useful for monmouthshire

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~monfamilies/

I can't find either a baptism for William (under Harris or Harries) or a marriage for Joseph in Llanhilleth which I thought were complete for those years

when you say you tried the local offices did you try Mynyddyslwyn where Emma was born. Unfortunately it says transcripts available but they do not seem to be online

Hi all

Thank you for all your replies and I am sorry I have not got back to you sooner but I have been involved in other things

Yes, it is the William Harris you have found but I have tried all the normal sources with no success. I believe he was a Baptist so if anyone knows if there is a site for the Baptist church that might be helpful. I do not have a marriage for his parents as we do not know Emma's maiden name. I suppose it is possible that he was not registered and also possible that he was illegitimate. Just have to keep trying
