Find Ancestors

Subject gentleman was married in 1868 to Mary Jane Bosher in Pembrokeshire (Pembroke or Tenby). He died late 69 or early 70, my ggrandfather being born without a dad in 1870.
the latter also being christened Henry Thomas. I'm trying to trace the cause of death/whereabouts ( possibly at sea)
grateful for any info on my ancestors

I can see a birth for Mary Jane Bosher in Marylebone Dec 1845 and a baptism; father George (shoe maker), mother Mary..... but just can't see any censi on them.

Henry Thomas snr born 20th August 1845, cause & place of death unknown,
married Mary Jane Bosher 1868 in Pembroke, she was born in Marylebone, London & gave birth in April 1870 to Henry Thomas jnr but father indicated as deceased on the birth certificate, how & when father died eludes me but there is one possibility - a death of a Henry Harrison in Liverpool , Sept 1869 a long shot but worth sighting the Certificate methinks

Yes I believe this to be my great grandfather but also convinced that the S is not an S but rather a T, also how can he be a niece if he is a male ? Whereabouts of mother not firm yet !! possibly inNewcastle , Durham if my memory serves me well - albeit bit bedraggled these days !!

Liz, thanks for your reply, this is my gg grandfather, born 20th August 1845 in Moylegrove, Cardiganshire, he is indicated as a Seaman on his marriage certificate in 1868, & his wife being Mary Jane Bosher.

It is his death data that eludes me , any other info is much appreciated, there is one Henry Harrison that died Sept 1869 so he is a possibility, however Mary Jane gave birth to Henry Thomas Jnr. in April 1870 I believe

Richard - Thanks for the email. Do you have a copy of the birth cert. - if so, does it say "father - name - deceased" in the column for father's name?
I cannot find a death overseas or at sea for those dates.
Was your g grandfather the first child born to the marriage ?

Liz, good day, I used to have this birth certificate but lost it six months ago whilst moving accomodation abroad, seems I need another but as far as I recall there was indeed the father's name with notation (deceased).
Henry Thomas Harrison jnr was the only child as far as I am able to determine, but in 1871 census he was not with his mother ( who I believe I found in the Newcastle area with another family). My GG was noted to be in Pembrokeshire , worlds apart in those days !

Richard - can find no trace of Henry b 1845, could it be possible that he was "deceased" on his son's birth cert. as he had disappeared? Perhaps he died at sea, and it was not recorded?
If you think it is worth sending for the death cert. from September l869, you could apply to Liverpool Registry Office, and ask if they are willing to do a check - ie that he was a seaman. If it is a Henry who had another occupation, and it was registered by, possibly, his wife, you would know it is the wrong person.
They should have a website and you could email them and ask if they do checks for certs. You could send online to the GRO, but I am not sure if they do checks anymore.

Liz, thanks again for the input, I need to once again get hold of the Death Cert from Liverpool 1869, I do recall that it was the Dock Superintendent who was the informant thereon, so highly likely his marriage certificated "Seaman" occupation is a fact that fits the scanario. I remember being unconvinced when I held the Certificate. The death is , however, some 7 months prior the birth, but Mary Jane Harrison (neeBosher) christened the child by the same name in memoriam. Wish I could be more sure somehow...

Richard - I have a great aunt who remarried in l907, but I cannot find the death of her first husband. He was a seaman, and he just seems to disappear. Sorry not to be of more help, please let me know if you find more details.

May I add that this gentleman was a seaman & died before his son was born, On the birth certificate of HTH Jnr his dad HTH snr was said to be deceased. Given this extra information , can anyone point me in the right direction or lead me to the Cause/Date?Whereabouts of the trajic death of a young man

Henry Thomas Harrison born 20th August 1845, cause & place of death unknown & has eluded me for years - frustrating.
He had married Mary Jane Bosher 1868 in Pembroke, she was born in Marylebone, London & gave birth in April 1870 to Henry Thomas jnr but father indicated as deceased on the birth certificate , he was recorded as a seaman thereon.

Can anyone help me to find the cause/place of death - possibly at sea ?

Pleased to say that the last message seems to be key info.
Henry Thomas Harrison died of Yellow fever 29th Jan 1870 whilst on board brigantine " Martha Stevens" a Swansea registered ship off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bosun & even the Master went down with fever also - but whether they survived I cannot determine. Records in Swansea County Hall.
His son was born after his death on April 20th 1870 , I am descended from both these gentlemen
