His occupation at the time of the marriage is Driver RFA (Royal Field Artillery). His service records did not survive, so I am unable to use this resource to find out personal information about him. The Medal Roll Index did not have his Brigade/unit number on the record. |

In the 1890s, there were gold rushes in Nome, Alaska, in the Klondike in Yukon Terr, and in Kalgoorlie WA. In view of where Walter winds up, I would opt for Kalgoorlie. By 1919, the rush is over, but there would still be gold being mined there. Even today, the nearby Paddington mine produces 140000 oz pa |

The only gold mines that I have heard of in Britain are in Wales and I think there may have been a couple in Scotland on a smaller scale. Isn't it the Welsh Gold that is used for wedding rings for the Royal Family? |
