Trying to find Hartley

I am trying to find out more about my great grandfather Robert Hartley. He lived in Bacup in 1905 with his new wife Sarah Ann (nee Chamley or Charnley) and they had a daughter Mary Jane, my grandmother. My grandmother was fostered when she was 4 years old (in1909) and never knew what really happened to her parents. Did Robert run off with someone else? Did her mother, Sarah, really die of a broken heart? Who was Richard Hartley - she vaguely remembered a brother, or was he a cousin or half-brother? I can't find him at all. I'd also like to know Robert Hartley's parents, I know his father was Thomas Hartley, but who was his wife, where was Robert born? There are so many Robert Hartleys in the census in Lancashire. Hopefully my clues will ring true with someone.
