hi trying to find out what mental instituition my great grand mother died in her name was kate edith hill nee davies think she was born in hereford in 1870 or around that time

Rebecca - if you purchase the marriage cert - details of which I posted on your other thread - you will have a better idea of when born and also a fathers name with which to search the census returns.

If you go to
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

click on : 'search archives'
then 'Hospital Records'

then 'search the database' and put in Birmingham in town name

it will give you all the hospitals in the area, what and where the records are kept, there only seems to be 2 or 3 that are Mental Hospitals, many are now closed
