Rebecca
Who is shown as his father on the marriage certificate and how old was Richard?
You need more information before you can trace a common name.

kate was his wife her name was kate edith davies i've narrowed his year of birth down to 1843 in lancashire but not sure weather it was warbledon or salford i do know that he drove trains and drove a very famous one called the flying scotsman! He also had an illigitmate child with one of his servants after 1930 his was about 95 when he died

Hi Rebecca, I think you will find his birth - 1843 Newton-le-Willows - on Lancashire bmd. It's very easy to send for his birth certificate from that site and then you will discover the name of his mother etc. Hope this helps.
