Hi,

I'm trying to trace my great-grandfather's ancestry, George Hill born 31.5.1880 in Kirkstall, Leeds, Yorkshire. George was in the Dragoon Guards and then in the Mounted Police in Middlesbrough.

For some reason I can't find him in any census records or military records, even though we have pictures of him both in the army and the police. He was married to Jane Hutchinson and they had Norman, Muriel and my grandad William Horace.

Can anyone help?
Andrew

What is the name & occupation of his father from the marriage cert?

Do you have the birth cert or have you got date of birth from a death cert?

Hi Ozi,

Thanks for all your help on this, most appreciated. I have no idea why I've not been able to find this info, I've been searching on Ancestry and Findmypast to no avail, so thanks for this. I think I need to brush up on my search skills!

George Hill was in the 7th Dragoon Guards and fought in the Boer War, the second one I think, around 1901. I'd love to know if you're able to find any records for him.

Thanks again
Andrew
