I have found my great grandfather on the 1901 and 1891 census for sutton Hull yorkshire, these state that he was born in 1862 Barnsley yorkshire. But search as I might I cannot find a record of his birth, therfor I dont know who his parents were. It is possible that his wife Eliza is eliza yoxall from brutton staffordshire, although not proved but that would make his father George Hilton ( a collier ) His children were ;- George 1886 Stafford,Thomas 1888 May or mary1891,Elizabeth 1892,Lily 1894.And Arthur my grandfather1897 all born Hull East yorkshire. |

Just a thought but I wonder whether James below could have been a brother of Jonathan. They seem to have been born and moved though the same settlements and both probably married in the Wolstanton Reg District in 1884 |

And a futher thought I wonder whether this was the family in 1871 with Jonathan listed as John. The village of Hoyland isn't far from Barnsley. The father George is listed as a labourer but his neighbours are miners. George seems very young to be the father of John but the ages are clearly written on the census |
