I would be grateful for help. My late mother said one of her uncles went to North America to prospect for gold. I think it must have been Albert Hughes, born 1870 in Stanford in the Vale. He appears in the 1891 census as a cheesemonger's assistant in Lambeth London. Does anyone know how I can find out if he joined the Gold Rush in North America?

On the Ellis Island site the Albert Hughes who arrived 1903 was heading to Dawson which is in Yukon Territiry, Canada, another gold rush site.
Can't find him, though, in the 1911 Canadian census.

I think that is my great-uncle Albert that you have found for me in Alaska. Please can you say whether in the 1920 or 1930 censuses Albert has any family with him (I'm wondering whether he married)?

Hi nicky
On the 1920 & 1930 cencus albert is stated as being single.
He only as a lodger living with him in 1920 and no family.

Albert in both cencus is stated as being a gold miner.
