in Gravesend Kent

What information do you have so far? Marriage certificate? Birth Certificate? Census records?

Buy the birth cert for £7 from GRO online for both his parents full names, dads occupation and the place of birth: Us the following reference and buy from GRO online. Please read the Absolute Basics thread - you will then have an over view of basic research and posting.

Spouse either Kate Ellis or Mary Elizabeth Ringwood.

This marriage is in Yorkshire and he seems to be in Yorkshire on a vessel named "Truelove" in 1871 census and recorded as married.

On the 1851 census found by Sharon, his father's occupation is Waterman.

The address then is 13 Mansfield Place.

He was perhaps known by his middle name Thomas so as not to be confused with his father.
