i am trying to find information on my grandmother's family. she was elizabeth ann hughes, born around 1884 and married to james [jonas] cropper in hanging heaton [where i think she was born] in 1905. her father was called john hughes and he was a miner. family tradition has it that her mother was jewish, the 1st of her family to marry out and they came from cumberland to hanging heaton to marry and then to have 'liza'. her mother married 4 times, hughes was the 1st, mr martin the 2nd, an unknown 3rd, and mr lye or lyle the 4th. liza's mother's family were thought to have been market traders in china, and there was always lovely pieces about..thank you. linda |
