My greatgrandfather was William HUGHES, born in the Tredegar area in November, 1839. He married Sarah BENNETT, born 1844, also born Tredegar and they moved to Accrington, Lancashire sometime in the late 1870s. I have their census returns for that town, but can make no progress backwards. William's father was another William, shown on the marriage certificate as 'butcher, deceased'. There was a William Hughes, butcher in Ebbw Vale in the 1858 directory. Could he be the same man? Can anyone help with further information?? This lot are a real brick wall! The family seem to disappear, apart from my grandfather and one sister by 1901. Iain Parsons. |
