I was wondering if anyone recognised my paternal grandmothers line, which I am struggling to make any progress with... I am looking for the following: My Great Grandparents were William Henry HUGHES (blacksmith/journeyman) and Clara HUGHES nee CONNER William Henry Hughes may have been the son of William Hughes, an axle forger/ axlesmith possibly born 1850 in Cayham, Shropshire and either Sarah A Hughes born 1850 in West Bromwich, Stafford, England or Mary Hughes born 1850 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. Clara CONNER may be the one that was born on 12.06.1871 @ 24, Suffolk Street, Birmingham and be the daughter of James CONNER and Jane CONNER nee TAYLOR. They had the following children: Clara HUGHES born 20.04.1892 @ Leek Street, Birmingham James William HUGHES born 29.04.1893 @ 56 Holt Street, Aston Nellie HUGHES born 28.04.1896 @ 7 Court, 5 Highgate Street, Deritend, who married Joseph Henry Steventon and died in 1915. Emily HUGHES born 20.02.1899 @ Back of 28 Cape Street, All Saints, who married Reuben Hancox and died on 18.12.1960 (She was my grandmother) William Henry HUGHES born 29.12.1900 @ Back of 28 Cape Street, All Saints There may have also been further siblings called Peggy, Gert and Lizzie HUGHES I have tried to locate a record of the wedding of William Henry HUGHES and Clara CONNER in Birmingham between her 16th birthday in 1887 and the birth of their daughter Clara HUGHES in 1892 but to no avail. Does anyone recognise or have any links with the above, if so, please get in touch... Thanks Sue |
