george jackson and jane hawthorn were married in the uk between 1849-1881.Their children were emma born manchester may 1849 and mary born gatehouse of fleet scotland 1850.I cannot find the marriage .I believe george was english and was the great glasgow jewel robber of 1853 I believe he was transported in 1856 and received a conditional pardon in 1863 .I believe he attempted gold mining in victoria and then circa 1870 sneaked back to england. I cannot find jane his wife in the 1871 census she was probably living in england she was born in scotland and worked as a housekeeper. In 1871 she is the housekeeper to the lord mayor of liverpool and is a widow .On her death certificate she is the widow of george jackson a retired coachman 1907. Regards Colin Jones |
