I wonder if anyone can help at all.
My Grandmother was Dorothy Ellison nee Wheatley and was born 17/06/1916 in Knaresborough. Her father was Albert Wheatley born 1890 in Harrogate. I have traced this line further back. I am struggling with her mum though I have her as Nora Johnson born in 1890 in London but cannot find out her parents. Maybe her birth year is wrong! Any help would be most appreciated. Its a big gapping gap in my tree.

Since there are numerous Nora Johnsons on freeBMD and the 1901 census you need her fathers name and occupation from her marriage cert, that should also give her age and any witnesses that may be related to her.

You really need to order their marriage certificate. This will give you her father's name and her age and give you a better chance of finding her and where she came from. Are you sure she was born in London? Girls usually marry in their home town or did her parents move north when she was a child?
Have you checked the 1911 census to see if it says where she was born?

A quick look at the 1911 tells us that she said she was 19 when the census was taken which makes her year of birth 1891/2 depending when her birthday fell.. Without paying to look I can't find out where she was born.
