Hi, I'm trying to find my maternal grandmother's birth record but as her name is Mary Jones i'm having great difficulty!
I have her marriage certificate and death certificate but as there were dozens of Mary Jones born in Caernarvon in 1885 I've become stuck! I have been trying to find Parish records for Llanrug which is where she was born but I can't seem to find them. Can anyone help at all?

Hi Cathy,
The baptisms for Llanrug which are held at the Caernarfon Area Record Office only go from 1674 - 1882. I see there are 6 Mary Jones on the 1891 census. Can you give us her father's name from her marriage certificate, it might help.

Hi Kathleen,
I have found her and her family right up to 1901 but I'd like to get her birth certificate to be sure I'm on the right track.
Her fathers name is Thomas occupation gardener and there is a Richard Jones as one of the witnesses who I took to be her brother. Residence is Hen Gapel, Caer Athrow.
In the 1891 census Mary was staying with her grandparents Robert and Ellen. I'm pretty sure it's the right family but it would be nice to have her birth certificate to be sure.
Pity about the parish records but if you have any more ideas i'll be grateful for any help. Thanks a lot for getting back to me.

I've been looking at the family in 1901. (I hope I have the right one - Thomas is a gardener & there's a son, Richard.) I was wondering if you could narrow the field down a bit & check one of the other children's birth certs.

Now if 4 year old Harry is really a Harry there's only one born in the time frame.

You could get this to check mother's maiden name & then use that as a checking point for your Mary when ordering her cert.

Hi Joan,
Llanrug is in Caernavon and she married Zephaniah Phillips in 1904.
I've got thier marriage certificate and her death certificate. I've also found the family in all the census's from1871 to 1901.
I would really like to get her birth certificate though.

Thanks for your help and you have got the right family but I don't know about the Harry Parry (what a great name!) Jones. I did start looking for the siblings births but they are such common names and I had to give up and go to work! I'll keep trying though and thanks to you all for your help.
